The opening of Al Wakrah Stadium shows Qatar is moving steadily towards hosting the FIFA 2022 World Cup in the best possible manner, Qatar Chamber (QC) Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani has said.

In a statement, he said World Cup projects being implemented in the country have not been affected by the blockade and projects were proceeding as planned without delays. He said the inauguration of the stadium on Thursday is a reflection of the success of Qatar’s economic plans and that the country is moving in the right direction towards achieving its goals in hosting the World Cup.

QC Director General Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi said: “The opening of Al Wakrah Stadium in a record time and ahead of the start of the FIFA World Cup 2022 as the first stadium to be fully constructed to host the tournament is considered a great achievement and proof of the readiness of the country and its preparation for the World Cup”.

He stressed unequivocally the unjust blockade imposed on Qatar did not affect in any way the major projects being implemented. He noted the opening of the World Cup stadium comes only a few days after the opening of the Doha Metro’s Red Line South, which was also opened ahead of schedule.
