Doha: Some schools have suspended in-person classes after reporting Covid-19 cases but there is absolutely no need to worry as very few cases have been reported so far in schools, a senior official at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has said.

Of more than 340,000 students and 30,000 teachers who have returned to schools , only “very few” have been found infected with Covid-19, Mohamed Al-Bishri, advisor to the Minister of Education and Higher Education, said. “There is no reason to fear or worry as the number is negligible,” he added.

Speaking to Qatar Radio, he also said attendance at most schools was more than 85 per cent.

He said the authorities are monitoring the situation very closely and there is a continuous coordination between various ministries, school managements, parents, teachers and students.

“There is a permanent and continuous coordination between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the Ministry of Public Health,” Al Bashri said.

Al Bashri also requested parents not to fall prey to rumours circulating in the social media and follow only authorised sources for information.

One Indian school had send a notice to the parents today saying four of their bus attendants, who were earlier tested negative,  have tested positive now and advised the kids who used the transportation to get themselves tested and submit a Covid-19 negative test before joining the school.
