DOHA: Thrissur Jilla Souhrida Vedi (TJSV), an organisation of expatriates from Thrissur district in the southern Indian state of Kerala, has emerged runners-up in two major competitions held in Qatar.

The two competitions were Onam pookkalam (flower) design competition organised by the Safari Hypermarket and an Online Youth Festival organised jointly by Al Saheem, Raheem Media and 98.6 Radio. Onam is the harvest festival of Kerala.

Several expat organisations had participated in the pookkalam competition and more than 700 contestants  from around 70 organisations had participated in the Online Youth Festival.

Trophy and prizes

The trophy and prizes for the winners in the Online Youth Festival were received, on behalf of the organisation by TJSV President Abdul Gafoor, Advisory Board Chairman Sharaf P Hameed, Vice-President Muhammad Rafi, Cultural Committee Vice-Chairman Habeeb Chemmali, Cultural Committee Coordinator Pramod and Secretary Sajeesh.

The trophy and prizes for the winners in Onam Pookalam Contest were received by Vedi First Vice-President Muhammad Musthafa, Vice-President Muhammad Rafi, Cultural Committee Coordinator Pramod, Cultural Committee Vice-Chairman Habeeb and other office-bearers.

Speaking on the occasion, Vedi President Abdul Gafoor said that the duty of every social worker was to be ready to serve society under all circumstances and not be selective.
