DOHA: The two-day Third Qatar-US Strategic Dialogue will start in Washington on Monday. A high-level session would be co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

There would be virtual breakout sessions held virtually between delegates to discuss health security, military cooperation, cultural and academic exchanges, civil aviation, enhancing civil society, science and innovation initiatives, counterterrorism and law enforcement cooperation, investment and international development assistance coordination.

The dialogue will deal with areas of cooperation in politics, economy, culture, education, energy, health, mediation and combatting terrorism. The strategic dialogue will see announcements of several cultural, economic and educational partnerships. A number of MoUs and letters of intent related to the culture, development and economy fields are to be signed.

Enhancing cooperation

The strategic dialogue aims to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields and to develop the special bilateral relations that depend on common interests and mutual respect.

Qatar will stress during the dialogue the need to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue. The first Qatari-US Strategic Dialogue was held in Washington in January 2018, while the second was held in Doha in January 2019.
