DOHA:  Sohni Dharti Forum organised an online competition to understand how children perceive lockdown and the Covid-19 pandemic situation.

“A programme was arranged by Sohni Dharti in view of the interest, abilities and talent of our community youths. The main aim of the programme was to engage children in a positive activity and to give them a healthy platform during the lockdown,” said Sohni Dharti Forum chairman Saleem Baloch.

He added: “We planned the competition considering the current situation and the feelings of our young children and set the theme according to the current lockdown situation.”

Age groups

Three age groups were formed and three different topics provided to them according to the age groups. The topics included: 1) Draw/design your own mask; 2) Your observation about the parks during pandemic situation and 3) Health-related physical exercises during the pandemic time.

The programme was launched through Sohni Dharti social groups. “To our surprise, the response was overwhelming. Children started practising from their homes and were very excited to participate in the contest. A Zoom meeting was arranged for online competition and a number of executive committee members were available to observe live paintings,” said Baloch.

He stated: “The children demonstrated discipline and the competition concluded after 90 minutes. Artwork was collected by our team and handed over to the jury for results. The artwork of every child was outstanding and it was very hard to decide the winners.”

Competition placings

In the age group of 4-7 years, Hafsa Rizwan came first, while Yumna Afzaal and Umaimah Khayam came second and third, respectively. In the age group of 8-11, Ayesha Arif got first position while Maida Shahid came second and Muhammad Hamza Rizwan got third position.

In the age group 12-16, Fatima Ahmed came first, while Muhammad Ahmed Bhatti and Fiza Muhammad Amjad got second and third positions, respectively.
