DOHA: The rise in the number of vehicles and licence holders notwithstanding, there has been 2.8 per cent drop in road traffic accidents in Qatar.

Captain Saud Abdullah Al Hamad of the Traffic Safety Department in a webinar on Wednesday said in 2019, a total of 217,353 road accidents were recorded compared to 223,718 in 2018.

Last year, 168 people lost their lives in road accidents, while 154 died in 2018.  “This has happened despite the number of vehicles increasing to 1,655,704 in 2019 from 1,587,819 in 2018 while the number of licence holders went up to 1,612,218 in 2019 from 1,528,496 in 2018,” he said.
