DOHA: The Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD), has signed a $5 million grant agreement with the Albanian government to finance the reconstruction of two secondary schools and one kindergarten in Albanian capital Tirana.

Two secondary schools are planned to be built on 8,000 and 3,632 sq. metres, in addition to a kindergarten on 1,875 sq. metres as part of the agreement. The new facilities will serve more than 3,000 people in Tirana.

The agreement was signed by QFFD Director-General Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari and Albanian Minister of State for Reconstruction Arben Ahmetaj.

In a statement on Saturday, QFFD said the agreement seeks to raise the efficiency of school infrastructure in order to provide equal opportunities for students and high-quality education in Albania, through reconstruction of schools and equipping them with modern technology.

The agreement was signed during the celebration of the reopening of the Jeronim De Rada School in the municipality of Tirana, which was rebuilt with Qatari funding after its destruction due to floods in 2017.

Qatar, represented by QFFD, undertook the reconstruction of the school at a cost of $1.1 million. The QFFD also rebuilt the school’s sports club in order to improve the educational experience for students.
