Qatar Charity (QC) is implementing the Mahanju Multi-Service Education Centre project in Nairobi. The centre aims to rehabilitate orphans and their families by teaching them basic crafts, raise the percentage of school attendance of orphans and reduce the rate of school dropouts resulting from poverty.

The 1,200-sq. metre centre comprises eight classrooms, four dormitories for students, two training and rehabilitation halls, a restaurant, a mosque and an artesian well, along with other facilities. The project also includes a model boarding primary school and a kindergarten. Approximately 1,000 students are expected to benefit from this project.

The project is coming up in an area where more than 45 per cent of the total population is middle-class and 55 per cent is low-income, with unemployment at 46 per cent.

The number of orphans sponsored by QC in Kenya reached 4,300 by the end of 2018. QC has implemented hundreds of programmes and projects in Kenya – most notably relief projects for refugees, the displaced and flood victims – in addition to projects on education, water and economic empowerment for needy families.
