Qatargas has successfully completed the largest-ever multiport delivery of a single cargo of LNG, a first in the industry. This achievement saw a Q-Max vessel safely discharge LNG at two terminals in Spain.

“Qatargas continues to deliver innovative solutions which provide greater efficiency, flexibility and optimisation of resources. This multiport delivery further demonstrates our commitment to maintaining our position as the world’s premier LNG company,” said CEO Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al Thani.

The established practice in the LNG industry is to deliver a single cargo of LNG to a single location. Qatargas’ pioneering achievement was made possible by using the largest class of LNG vessel in the world – a Q-Max vessel – which has a cargo carrying capacity of 266,000 cubic metres. This allows a Q-Max to deliver two full conventional size cargoes on one vessel.

Qatargas loaded the cargo at the Ras Laffan terminal in Qatar on the Q-Max LNG vessel Mekaines on May 12. The two cargo ‘parcels’ were delivered to the Barcelona and Cartagena LNG terminals in Spain on May 30 and June 1, respectively.
