DOHA: With the phased reopening of cultural institutions and services continuing, Qatar Museums has announced updated timings for the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, the Fire Station and museum libraries from 1 September.
Health and safety protocols, in accordance with guidelines from Qatar’s Health Protection and Communicable Disease Control Office in the Ministry of Public Health, will require visitors to pre-book tickets on the Qatar Museums’ website, present a “green” health status on the Ehteraz virus-tracing mobile application and wear a face mask throughout the duration of their visit.
Qatar Museums CEO Ahmad Al Namla said: “As the country enters Phase 4 of the gradual lifting of Covid -19 restrictions, Qatar Museums has reassessed its opening timings and announced extended hours. Over the coming months, the community can also look forward to a full roster of activities and exhibitions catering to a range of cultural interests and artistic passions.”
Updated timings for MIA, Mathaf Islamic Art Museum and the Fire Station are as follows:
Saturday to Thursday: 9 am – 7 pm
Friday: 1.30 pm – 7 pm
No restriction on number of museum visitors; however, exhibitions will have reduced staff and the necessary social distancing precautions will apply.
MIA Library: Same as Museum opening hours
Mathaf Library: Sunday to Thursday, 9 am – 2.30 pm
No restriction on library visitors but the necessary social distancing precautions will apply.

Qatar Museums’ playgrounds and the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) galleries, along with its Sister Cake Mobile Kiosk, will remain closed until 1 October.
Though NMoQ galleries remain closed, the museum will launch two digital exhibitions – Qatar’s Culinary Journey and Habitat & Shelters – exploring themes from its permanent galleries as well as content curated by the wider community.
