DOHA: Qatar will use a new saliva-based Covid-19 test for children, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced.
Qatar is one of the first countries in the world to launch this test.
The saliva-based test is ideal for children as it is less intrusive and does not require a swab to be inserted into the nose and back of the throat like the current standard swab.
Saliva tests can be easily completed by transferring saliva from the mouth into a sample pot. Studies around the world have shown that these tests are effective.
The launch of these tests will help the authorities to conduct large numbers of Covid-19 tests among students, if necessary. The current tests are intrusive and many children were unwilling to take tests.
This will also help the authorities in the prevention of the spread of Covid-19 cases.
