DOHA: Qatar’s August Consumer Price Index (CPI) showed an increase of 0.48 per cent compared to July, the Planning and Statistics Authority said on Monday.

Compared to CPI of August last year, a 4.05 per cent decrease was recorded.
The index, which measures inflation, reached 96.19 points in August, compared to 95.73 points in July.

Compared to the July CPI, the CPI for August shows five main groups witnessing an increase. ‘Recreation and Culture’  increased 2.29 per cent, ‘Miscellaneous Goods and Services’ 2.02 per cent, ‘Food and Beverages’ 1.93 per cent, ‘Education’ 1.58 per cent and ‘Furniture and Household Equipment’ by 0.27 per cent.

Decreases

Three groups recorded varying decreases. The `Transportation’ segment decreased 0.65 per cent, `Clothes and Shoes’ by 0.57 per cent and `Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuels’ by 0.49 per cent.

On the annual basis, a decrease has been recorded in five groups. `Recreation and Culture’ group decreased 22.7 per cent, `Transport’ 6.73 per cent, `Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuels’ 4.91 per cent, ‘Clothing and Footwear’ 4.26 per cent and ‘Communication’ by 0.81 per cent.

An increase has been shown in `Tobacco’ by 8.37 per cent, Restaurants and Hotels’ by 4.29 per cent, ‘Miscellaneous Goods and Services’ by 1.94 per cent, ‘Education’ by 1.77 per cent, ‘Furniture and Household Equipment’ by 1.48 per cent, ‘Health’ by 0.95 per cent and ‘Food and Beverages’ 0.2 per cent.
