Qatari Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza Chairman Mohamed Al Emadi announced a set of humanitarian projects in Gaza Strip during a press conference. He said $180m of the total Qatari grant will be allocated for humanitarian projects that serves Gaza and supports the electricity sector and will be done in consultation and coordination with the UN institutions.
Al Emadi said Qatar will build a field hospital on the border of the northern Gaza Strip on an area of 40 dunums to support the health sector. Meanwhile, the contract of supplying the power plant in Gaza will be extended until the end of this year. He added that Qatar will also support the 161 projects within the plan to develop and improve the electricity supply in Gaza and continue the disbursement of cash assistance to poor and needy families for six months.
Al Emadi noted Hamas and Israel do not want to escalate the situation, adding that if the recent escalation continued for few more hours, the world would have witnessed humanitarian disasters and the entire region would have entered into a critical situation the consequences of which are unknown. Responding to a question on the salaries of Gaza employees, Al Emadi explained the issue will be discussed later and the responsibility is of the government in the Gaza Strip.
