The American US State Department has said Qatar is one of the closest military allies of the US in the region.
In a statement on Wednesday, it said US counterterrorism coordinator Nathan A Sales would arrive in Doha to thank Qatar for its commitment to combatting global terrorism and its dedication to a robust partnership with the US on counterterrorism and security.
Sales will meet with Attorney General Ali bin Fetais Al Marri and other senior government officials to discuss Qatar’s role as a strong partner in combatting the financing of terrorism, including implementation of its new Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) legislation. Sales would also discuss Qatar’s active participation in the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
Blockading countries have been constantly accusing Qatar of abetting terrorism and the State Department’s statement is another affirmation of Qatar’s stance that its commitment to fight terrorism is strong and recognised by all its allies.
