Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has announced the expansion of its screening suite at Rawdat Al Khail Health Centre. The total capacity for all screening centres has now increased to 2,000 visitors weekly.

The Rawdat Al Khail Health Centre now can handle 180 visitors per day with more nurses’ rooms, screening rooms and follow-up rooms. There are separate male and female entrances and waiting areas. Dr Mariam Abdulmalik, Managing Director, PHCC, said, “Through the `Screen for Life’ programme, PHCC has been creating awareness among people on the timely screening of breast and bowel cancer.”

Dr Shaikha Abu Shaikha, manager of screening programmes, PHCC, said, “This expansion would further strengthen our objective of reaching out to a larger number of people by inviting them for screening through our dedicated call centre and receiving them in our newly expanded suites with complete privacy, comfort and ease.”

Breast cancer screening at the Rawdat Al Khail Health Centre for women between 45 and 69 years of age will now take less than 20 minutes for each appointment. A second mammogram room has been added doubling capacity of the screening suite to 90 participants per day and 450 participants per week.

For bowel screening, the total capacity per day will be close to 96 participants and 480 per week. The appointments are even shorter than those in breast screening clinics since the participant will take the screening kit home where they will do the FIT test. The bowel screening centre will also have two assessment clinics for both men and women with specific opening hours. Participants have been requested to call the `800 1112’ to book appointments and are required to arrive 30 minutes ahead of their appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome.
