ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Fakhar Imam has mooted the idea of creating an agricultural research institute in partnership with Qatar.One branch would be located in Doha and the other in Islamabad.

In a meeting with Qatari Ambassador Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Wednesday, he proposed the signing of an MoU between the two countries in the area of agriculture.

Imam highlighted Pakistan exported rice, cotton, fish, fruits and vegetables to Qatar and imported vegetable oil, wheat, pulses and consumer foods. Qatar is a big market for agricultural products because its imports from across the globe comprise mainly of agricultural goods.

During the meeting, that Pakistan was exporting disease-free meat and meat products to Qatar for the past many years was highlighted. It was also discussed Halal meat and meat products were being exported to Qatar from registered slaughterhouses in Pakistan duly endorsed by the Veterinary Authority of Qatar.
