DOHA: The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) on Wednesday said 577 building permits were issued by all municipalities of Qatar in August this year, a decrease of 16 per cent compared to the previous month.

A decrease was noted in the majority of municipalities, including Al Wakrah and Al Sheehaniya by 35 per cent each, Al Rayyan by 25 per cent, Umm Sala by 23 per cent and Al Da’ayen by 10 per cent.

Al Shamal showed an increase of 42 per cent, followed by Al Khor (26 per cent) and Doha (10 per cent).

In a quick review of the data on building permits issued according to their geographical distribution during August, Al Rayyan Municipality comes on top where the number of building permits issued was 147, accounting for 25 per cent of the total issued permits.

Doha Municipality came second with 128 permits, accounting for 22 per cent, followed by Al Wakrah Municipality with 97 permits (17 per cent and Al Da’ayen Municipality with 95 permits (16 per cent).

Umm Slal had 43 issued permits (7 per cent), Al Khor 39 permits (7 per cent), Al Shamal 17 permits (3 per cent), and Al Sheehaniya 11 permits (2 per cent).

Types of permits

In terms of types of permits issued, data indicates new building permits (residential and non-residential) constitute 44 per cent of the total with 256 issued in August.

Percentage of additions permits constituted 53 per cent (303 permits) and fencing permits accounted for 3 per cent with 18 permits.

“By analysing new residential buildings permits data, we find villas top the list accounting for 73 per cent of all new residential buildings with 148 permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans by 19 per cent with 38 permits and apartment buildings by 7 per cent with 15 permits,” the PSA said.

Commercial buildings were at the forefront of non-residential buildings, accounting for 50 per cent with 26 permits, followed by industrial buildings like workshops and factories accounting for 23 per cent with 12 permits and governmental buildings accounting for 15 per cent with eight permits.

Building completion certificates

As for building completion certificates issued during the month of August according to their geographical distribution, Al Wakrah Municipality came at the top with 76 certificates, accounting for 27 per cent of the total issued.

Al Rayyan Municipality was in second place with 75 certificates, followed by Doha Municipality with 40 certificates (14 per cent), Al Da’ayen Municipality with 32 certificates (12 per cent), Umm Slal 30 certificates (11 per cent), Al Sheehaniya 10 certificates (4 per cent), Al Khor eight certificates (3 per cent) and Al Shamal six certificates, accounting for 2 per cent of the total.
