DOHA: Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) Mohamed Hassan Al Obaidly has said amendments to the labour law and to the law regulating entry and exit of expatriates and their residence were aimed at improving conditions of the labour market in Qatar.
He was speaking at a meeting between the Ministry and Qatar Chamber on Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by Qatar Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani.
The meeting was held to discuss the recently issued laws determining the minimum wage for workers and facilitating changing jobs as well as challenges facing the private sector and related to the Ministry’s competences.
Sheikh Khalifa underscored the importance of boosting cooperation and coordination between QC and MADLSA to address obstacles and challenges faced by the private sector companies.
Ministry support
Al Obaidly said the Ministry was keen on supporting business owners and the private sector as well as protecting the interests of labourers. With regard to amendments aiming to facilitate changing workplace, he said there are three controls for changing jobs which ensure the interests of the employee and the employer – namely notification, non-competition and compensation.
He pointed to the cooperation between the Chamber and the Ministry, adding it was agreed to form a joint committee to discuss recruitment requests and other issues and obstacles facing the private sector and related to the Ministry’s competencies.
Al Obaidly revealed the Ministry’s decision regarding the ban on violating companies, saying the ban would be only on the violating commercial register, especially with regard to delaying payment of salaries.
