DOHA: As the final cannon is fired to mark the end of fasting on the last day of Ramadan, three of Qatar’s most popular cultural tourism landmarks will prepare to bring a different kind of joy to residents and visitors.

Katara Cultural Village, Souq Waqif and Souq Al Wakra are set to bring the spirit of traditional Eid celebrations to life with folkloric performances, parades and fireworks from the first day of Eid until the fifth.

“Thanks to their beautiful architecture, diverse cuisine, and enticing ambiance, Katara and Souq Waqif attract thousands of people who seek to immerse themselves in authentic experiences during religious holidays,” commented Mashal Shahbik of Qatar National Tourism Council.

An air-conditioned tent in Souq Waqif has also been installed with children’s games to spread the joy on this special occasion. Mohamed Al Salem, Souq Waqif Manager, said: “Souq Waqif is one of the most popular destinations in Qatar for visitors and residents alike. As such, the Souq’s management is fully prepared to receive crowds during Eid Al Fitr celebrations which will begin on the second day of Eid and continue for five consecutive days.”

Khalid Saif Al Suwaidi, Souq Al Wakra Manager, said: “Thanks to its location by the sea, Souq Al Wakra has been attracting visitors from all around Qatar, not just the southern areas. This year, Eid Al Fitr celebrations will be particularly special as, in response to popular demand, we will be launching fireworks displays starting on the second day of Eid and for five consecutive days.”

Meanwhile, Katara will once again revive the custom of giving out ‘Eidiya’ – a special Eid gift given to children – along the beachfront at 8 pm. Theatre lovers will be able to enjoy The Cake Seller in Theatre Building 16 throughout Eid and until June 9. Daily Eid celebrations will be capped with breathtaking fireworks.

The Eid Al Fitr celebrations kick off the Summer in Qatar season, featuring unmissable retail offers, a rich entertainment schedule, and the return of the popular Entertainment City. Residents in Qatar can enjoy discounts on a number of hotels and resorts reaching up to 40 per cent, while visitors can benefit from a 25 per cent discount on Qatar Airways flights to Doha from over 160 destinations.
