Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has appealed to all citizens visiting Sri Lanka to abide by instructions issued by the Sri Lankan authorities not to wear the niqab or face covering.
Sri Lanka last week banned people from wearing such face coverings in the wake of the deadly terror attacks of 21 April where hundreds of people were killed by blasts in churches and hotels.
The measures are aimed to help security forces identify people that may still be at large and involved in the attacks. The country is now in virtual lockdown amid fears more attacks are planned in the island nation.
