KUWAIT CITY: Flights from Israel headed to the UAE would not be allowed to fly over Kuwait. Citing an anonymous official source, Kuwaiti daily Al Qabas reported Kuwait had no plans to allow Israeli flights to use its airspace in the near future.
“What is rumoured about the possibility of allowing Israeli planes to cross Kuwaiti airspace to reach the UAE is totally false,” the source told the newspaper. “Israeli planes will never fly over Kuwait’s skies to reach the UAE.”
The comments were made in response to speculation that other Gulf countries would follow Saudi Arabia and allow overflights to “all countries” from the UAE.
The sources said that the new route between Israel and the UAE “does not pass through Kuwait, but through another country,” stressing the route is far from Kuwait.
On Monday, the first-ever commercial flight from Israel to Abu Dhabi passed through Saudi airspace, carrying an Israeli-American delegation headed to the UAE capital to discuss the recent normalisation deal.
“Kuwait will be the last state to normalise relations with Israel,” a source was quoted by Al Qabas saying earlier this week.
