DOHA: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has warned parents and students against falling prey to rumours on social media about the Covid-19 situation in schools and ‘closure’ of certain schools.

In a series of tweets, the Ministry said it is closely monitoring the situation and if a classroom or an entire school is closed due to the the spread of Covid-19, all parents and students concerned would be informed. Also, studies would continue online.

The Ministry also said the integrated learning system it adopted since 1 September is successful.

The Ministry’s warning comes in response to rumours widely circulated on social media about closure of certain schools and the detection of Covid-19 cases in schools.

The Ministry urged the public and parents not to listen to these rumours and rely on information provided by the authorities. Also, various authorities are updating the public about the Covid-19 situation and giving instructions about the procedures to be followed.

Limited number

The Ministry said that “a limited number” of coronavirus infections have been recorded in a few schools and they have been dealt with in accordance with the proper procedures.

It said separate teams were continuously monitoring the schools. It said vigorous testing is being carried out among students, teachers and other administrative employees of schools for COVID-19.

“The educational process in schools, which was launched on 1 September through an integrated learning system, is successful and has greatly contributed to reducing mixing in schools and thus reducing the risks associated with coronavirus infection,” the Ministry said on Twitter.
