CAIRO: Flights between Israel and the UAE will be able to fly over Bahrain after the kingdom on Thursday said all services to and from the UAE can cross its airspace.

“Bahrain will allow all flights coming to and departing from the United Arab Emirates to all countries to cross its airspace,” reported the official Bahrain News Agency, citing an official source at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications.

The decision, which the kingdom’s aviation authority said came at the request of the UAE, follows an agreement last month between Abu Dhabi and Israel to normalise ties.

Saudi Arabia recently gave the go-ahead for such flights to use its airspace while Kuwait has outright refused. Israeli carrier El Al also recently announced it would be operating its first cargo flight to Dubai on 16 September.

A joint US-Israeli delegation on board a special El Al aircraft had sought Saudi permission to overfly the kingdom en route to Abu Dhabi earlier this week. The aircraft had presidential advisor and President Donald trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner among its passengers.
