DOHA: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the commencement of the roads and infrastructure project in Al Wajba East (Package 1) as part of its plan to provide an integrated infrastructure and advanced roads network throughout the country.

Project works are scheduled to be completed in Q2 of 2023.

The project is located west of Umm Al Dome Street and north of Rawdat Al Naser Street, It aims to provide a network of internal streets in the area and raise their level of safety, in addition to creating an integrated infrastructure to respond to the requirements of the population and urban growth in the future.

The project has been divided into three geographical areas, which will be implemented in succession, Each would take one year to complete.

Road network

Project engineer, Western Areas Projects Section,  Roads Projects Department, Ashghal, Mohammed Al Ateeq stated the project includes implementing a a 17-km road network to enhance  traffic flow and providing connectivity with future public facilities in the area.

This is in addition to providing traffic safety elements, such as street lighting systems and poles, signboards and road markings. The project would also provide 34 km of shared pedestrian and cycle paths and 2,570 parking bays.

Infrastructure works

Al Ateeq said the infrastructure works include a 14-km-long sewage network, a 16.6-km surface and groundwater drainage network and a 10.7-km treated water network, in addition to extending potable water pipes and connecting them to the main drinking water network.

Materials and elements such as gabbro, columns, lighting lamps, signboards, sewage and rainwater drainage pipes, asphalt and prefabricated manholes, in addition to concrete and steel reinforcement would be supplied from local Qatari factories.

The target is for the local component to reach 85 per cent of the project’s work.
