The Amir, H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has received a written message from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, inviting him to attend the GCC emergency summit in Makkah Al Mukkramah on May 30.
The message was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, during a meeting with GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani in Doha on Sunday.
Earlier this month, King Salman had proposed holding two summits in Makkah at the end of May to discuss recent “aggressions and their consequences” in the region, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The announcement followed drone attacks on oil installations in the kingdom and attacks on four vessels, including two Saudi oil tankers, off the coast of the UAE.
