DOHA: There are 291 registered engineering consulting offices in Qatar, including 257 local offices and 34 international offices, while five offices have not been renewed since the beginning of this year, Engineer Jamal Matar Al-Nuaimi, Chairman of the Committee for the Acceptance and Classification of Engineers and Engineering Consultancy Offices at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, has said.
In an interview with Al-Raya, Al-Nuaimi also said the Ministry has introduced several electronic services during the corona pandemic, which include an electronic payment service to renew the registration and for the registration of new engineers and offices.
The registration tests for new engineers have been suspended in the light of the precautionary measures for Covid and to prevent gatherings.
He said the committee has completed 9,732 transactions for engineers during the Corona pandemic, including requests for renewal of registration, amendment of classification, redressal of grievances and other transactions. There are 1,944 new applications for registration. However, not all registered offices are active.
“The work of the committee has continued without interruption since the beginning of the Corona pandemic, and all services have been provided to engineers and consulting offices,” Al Nuaimi said.
The period of registration in the registry is three years for an engineer, and two years for consultancy offices, and the registration must be renewed within 30 days from the date of expiry. In case of delay, there is a fine of 1,000 for the engineer and 10,000 for the consulting office, for every month, and not exceeding three months, after which the name is removed.
It’s also illegal to practise the profession without licence, Al Nuaimi added.
